Why isn’t hysterectomy part of the treatment for stage IIB-IV cervical cancer?

Posted on Mar 08, 2010 under breast cancer | 2 Comments

Is there a particular reason that this is not the "standard of care" for stage IIB and beyond cervical cancer patients?

Once radiation and chemo successfully remove the cancer (or as according to a PET/MRI), why would they not remove the actual original cancer site (cervix) after the lymph nodes and other tissues are no longer cancerous?

Are there dangers to having a hysterectomy if you underwent max dose pelvic radiation, but have since completely healed and almost 4 months have passed?

Could a 15yr old get breast cancer?

Posted on Mar 08, 2010 under breast cancer | 4 Comments

I am at around 15 years old. No known history of breast cancer that. I just started my period less than a year ago (6ish months ago maybe?) so this might be some kind of hormone thing going on but I am not sure because I am just growing up and am not familiar with myself yet.

Anyway… I was showering yesterday and I happened to look down to my chest and noticed a little error. There is a little bump or two (probably the size a pea, if that) right next to each other. The skin itself is about the same color as my normal skin color, but when it was pressed a little it was the color of a vein (light purple/green/blue-ish). I am not sore at all anywhere and don’t have symptoms. My next period is expected to start within around a week. Is it just something to do with hormones and just maturing, some little breast thing I don’t know about? Before all my other period I hadn’t noticed anything, but I don’t really "concentrate" on my chest, so it might have been the same thing (maybe like a sign of my periods coming a week before)…

Is it probably like a clogged vein, duct, cyst (what is a cyst by the way?), etc?????

So, yeah… If it should be "checked out" I don’t really think I would be comfortable asking my mom anything related to my chest (can barely mention periods) and asking to go to the doctor and having the doctor even look there… If you know what I mean? Thanks!!!

I need a name for my 3 day walk for breast cancer awareness. Any thoughts?

I have a rapid mole growth on my ear. 8mm in about 2 months. Could it be skin cancer?

Posted on Mar 08, 2010 under skin cancer | 2 Comments

I am a few days shy of 18 years old. I’ve had a mole removed before due to the possibility of malignancy.

This mole thing on my ear is pale pinky brown. a little rough and unevenly shaped. It looks a bit like a bubble at about 3 or 4 mm high. It’s about 1cm now width wise in total. I’ve had this mole for years and it hasn’t grown before. its located on the anti-tragdus of my ear, It’s wrapped around my cartilage.

Could this be cancer?

How would my doctor remove it?

Thank you.

When breast cancer breaks through the skin, why is there concern over bleeding?

Do I have skin cancer? I’m 14 and kind of scared?

Posted on Mar 08, 2010 under skin cancer | 2 Comments

Alittle background. I’m a 14 year old black male, pretty average. Now, I’ve always had somewhat dry skin, a few patches of dryness here and there that would go away. However, recently I noticed a small slightly darker patch of skin on my chest. No pain or anything, just kinda there.

I also recently got a not that dark, but darker patch of dry-looking skin on my left arm, it doesn’t look cancerous though.

Heres the thing, I don’t have like an above-average exposure to the sun, I don’t tan or anything like that. And its winter where I am right now so not that much sun. I do take really hot showers though, could that be causing it? is it just dead skin cells or something? Like most 14 year olds, I am going through puberty so are all these tiny skin changes just one of the many weird things that happens sometimes? along with acne and stuff like that? or could it be more serious.

Thanks!

What is this (could it be skin cancer?!)?

I have this scaly patch on my elbow. It’s like the color of my skin and it’s like little bumps. It is visible but only looks like dry skin most of the time. In the summer time it is itchy and you can see the little red bumps. I have no idea what it is and I’ve used lotion and it doesn’t help. It’s been there for about 2 years. My dad does have skin cancer so it is a possibility I do also.
I have no idea what it is and I’ve done reseach and all of the things I looked up it’s not….
