Okay so I know that smoking destroys your cilia on your epithelial tissue. So knowing that can you give me a detailed explanation of how air pollution causes lung cancer.
For example:
Air pollution causes lung cancer because the particles are trapped iin the lung and become infected with cancer.
Now I know that isnt the answer.
Thanks soooo much for your help.

Am thinking that:
- lung cancer, from what I’ve read, looks like any old thing until it’s too late
- doctors use research to inform their judgement around testing
- research suggests that cancer tends to show up in older people
Someone who started smoking at 11 will have smoked for 20 years by the time they’re 31. Their doctor might not bother testing for cancer because the age profile is lower than the typical threshold (age 50, I think).
Thanks Denise, for replying.
But if the number of cigarettes smoked is, as many people say, the most important cause of lung cancer, what role does age play?

One of the articles above suggests that early smoking affects development in a special way…

My mom is 50 and I’m 16, she was diagnosed with lung cancer june 25th 2010, the doctors told us its stage four and has spread to her brain. They said there are only two small spots in the brain that are cancerous that they are using radiation on. They gave her 9 hours of chemo (which is the maximum they can legally give a patient) and they say there is alot of hope because shes so young. I’m so scared for my mom and my family. I’ve been reading online that stage four is terminal! is it!? can she survive this and be cancer free? Is there hope for her? How long does she have to live? I’m so beyond in shock with this, i could really use some answers! please!

My aunty has Lung cancer, they did surgery but unfortunatley couldnt get it all. She has been doing alright, but then a few weeks ago she lost her vision. She went to hospital where she regained her vision (something to do with the pituatry gland) they also informed her that the cancer had spread from her lung to her Femur (bone in thigh) and also to her ribs. Can someone please tell me how long someone usually lives for ones cancer has spread to the bones? beacause i find it all very hard to understand.
Please no nasty answers
Ta
before she found out it had spread they said anywhere upto 5 years of survival left…..but now its in her bones does that mean it is shortened alot!?
she is struggling to even dress herself, always lacking energy, tired always
