Found this cat that has been wandering around our place. She has been here for about 2 weeks we’ve tried to find her owners. Put flyers up at all the local vets, contacted the area animal shelters, put ads in the paper. She has pretty much stayed in the yard. Well its getting really hot out so I set her up a vet appointment so I could make sure she was healthy and I could bring her in. I actually dropped her off and went to run some errands because it was a work in appointment. Well the vet called me a few minutes ago and informed me of 2 things.
First thing: Simba (I’ve been calling her Simba) tested positive for Feline Leukemia
Second thing: Simba is pregnant.
The vet said we could discuss our options and everything when we get there and he would explain more but he feels we need to do an abort-spay ASAP.
As far as the abort spay goes I’m not really in a financial position at the moment to pay for an operation for a cat that isn’t even mine and none of the shelters are accepting cats right now. So I am kind of in a rock and a hard place.
I’m also not sure what this feline leukemia means for her and her future. Is it treatable, will she be able to be adopted out? Will anybody want her?
I’m not a cat person and can’t keep her plus I have a pit bull mix that would love to use her as a chew toy. I was just trying to help an animal out and now I’m not sure what I am supposed to do. Probably the last time I help a strange animal out but I tried.
What should I do? What can I do?
OCImom: As I said none of the shelters are taking cats right now I already checked. Plus you get penalized for turning in an animal whether it was your pet or a stray. Why should I have to forfeit being able to adopt up to 10 years for someone elses mistake. I didn
t throw away this cat.
If this were my pet I’d do the surgery in a heartbeat, but she is not my pet. Money isn’t a an issue, Its just I don’t have the money to spend on a pet that isn’t mine.
I’m getting ready to go talk to the vet, but I’m thinking I may just have him put her down.
I can’t care for her and she is sick and no one is going to want a sick cat.
Again Why should I have to forfeit being able to adopt up to 10 years for someone elses mistake. Because if I turn this cat over to the shelter. I can get on a waiting list to do so. This is my reality. And we are looking to adopt a second dog soon.
At the shelter they don’t care if you are handing over your own pet or a stray, the person handing over the animal gets penalized and barred from adoption for 5-10 years depending on which of the two shelters you go two (But its a statewide thing). And if they are just going to put down the cat anyway why not skip that step.
They said if I get on the waiting list there are 90 people in front of me to give up their pet.

I don’t have cancer, but I’m writing a book and my main character has leukemia, like Jamie did in A Walk to Remember. My character stops responding to treatment and tries to live a normal life. She decides to get a tattoo of a butterfly as to represent her short life, just like a butterfly. And because butterflies mean life or soul.
So can she get a tattoo or is that a bad idea? After all this story is fiction, do I have to keep the tat idea or just dump it?
And for those who have cancer, my prayers are with you. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ

So last week I got a 7 week old female calico kitten, her name was patches =(.and just yesterday i started to notice that she was very sleepy and did not want to eat or drink water, and she was very hot. So today, I took her to the vet to get her checked out and unfortunately she was diagnosed with feline leukemia, and after many tears, i made the decision to euthanize her, i’ve had many cats before and have never had to put a cat to sleep, so it was very very hard for me. My question is, what happens when they euthanize a kitten?…do they feel anything?..is it quick? did i do the right thing? how long would she have lived if i took her home with me instead of euthanized her? and my other main concern is that I have another cat 5 month old male tabby, he is not vaccinated (i was actually gonna take both of them to get vaccinated next week) and i’m worried that he might have the feline leukemia. He is very active and eats and drinks water, i havent noticed him sick or anything. What are the chances of him already being infected with feline leukemia?

There are 4 baby kittens in my backyard that I would like to bring in so I can take better care of them and eventually give them to homes. But I know that stray cats sometimes can have cat leukemia.I have 2 cats of my own that have gotten the vaccine for cat Leukemia. Do you think it would be okay to bring the kittens inside, and if I kept them in a separate room?

okay, so i have my bunny whos a netherland dwarf, and we need to bring him to my brother and his girlfriends place for about a month, and not only am i scared that they have a cat and they won’t get along because he’s never been put in that situation with another animal really, and this cat has feline leukemia. and yes i know feline means cat and all but since rabbits and cats are actually really close in that way, ’cause they can mate and such. so i just don’t want him to get hurt? and i think i’m totally blowing this out of proportion but he’s my baby and i love him, and i’ve never done this before/ i’m not really educated with this kind of stuff. help ! Thank you !!!
