If you have thyroid cancer will your TSH level in your blood test be off?

Posted on Mar 11, 2010 under cancer news and reports |

My throat has been hurting for a month and my voice is hoarse. Sometimes my throat hurts when I breath or feels dry. I don’t have a cold or a runny nose or allergies or acid reflux. Is it possible to have thyroid cancer if your TSH levels are normal?

Hi, My name is Vikas. My mother had similar problem. She was advised a breathing technique which resolved her condition in one month without any medicine et al. The technique is…to draw in breath through nostrils and exhale through mouth whistling very slowly feeling the air passing through pouted lips. And doing reverse, inhaling through rounded lips as in whistling and exhaling through nostrils. Repeat 21 times every morning and evening on empty stomach for one month. Key is the continuity. If u fail to do it even on a single day, u will have to go for next 30 days to achieve results.

During the winter months, if you are in heated environments, the air can be very dry - devoid of moisture causing changes in the mucosa that lines the naso-pharynx (throat, nose). At times, this will also affect the middle ears, too.

Firstly, increase humidification - bring a large pot of water to boil on the stove, and breath in the steam - let that simmer all day, and repeat the process 3-5 times. Secondly, to humidify your environment a simple humidifier/vaporizer can be used, and purchased at Walgreen’s or CVS, or WalMart; or dry your clothes on hangers instead of using the dryer; hanging wetted down towels in the bathroom near where you sleep will help, too.

Purchase some "normal saline" nasal spray and use that every hour for a a week or so, and increase your fluid intake if it is minimal - otherwise, you don’t have to do that. It sounds like humidification is the answer; however, if nothing helps after all of this, you must see a doctor. One thing to remember, cancer does not suddenly appear in your tissues; it takes years to grow before it’s diagnosed. So, do what you need to improve your environment, first - then go see a doctor if nothing helps the situation.

Yes, you can have thyroid cancer and a normal TSH…I did. To tell you the truth, it really doesn’t sound like you have thyroid cancer. Dry throat isn’t really a symptom of thyroid cancer, pain is rarely. You could have a virus with your voice issue. I would suggest going to your doctor to make sure everything is okay.

I had thyroid cancer and my TSH levels were all normal. However, the symptoms you have don’t really coincide with Thyroid Cancer. With the winter months the air is usually extremely dry, so try sleeping with a humidifier. But if you do feel like there is something wrong, talk with your doctor…push the issue. My doctor didn’t really take me seriously at first because my levels were normal. I knew something was wrong though so I pushed the issue. You are your biggest advocate and you know yourself best. Good Luck!
