I found a lump in my left breast today and I’m worried it’s cancer. Need some advice.?

I’m freaking out because I found a small hard ball/lump in my breast today right next to my nipple. It’s about the size of a marble (maybe a little bigger) and pretty hard. Seems round, fairly smooth. I can move it slightly around. Does not hurt. I’m going to get it checked out for sure- but does anyone have any advice or ideas as to what it could be?
*I am a 24 years old.

The odds are in your favour, it’s quite unlikely that it is cancer. Most breast lumps — as many as four out of five that are biopsied — are noncancerous (benign). But it’s still important to have the breast lump evaluated by a doctor to be certain you don’t have cancer.

You don’t say how old you are, but it’s clear from your Q&A that you’re a young woman. Breast cancer is mainly a disease of ageing - fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed with it are under 30 and only 5% are under 40.

Most breast lumps, even in older women, aren’t cancerous.

So the odds are in your favour, but all unexplained lumps should be investigated; you are doing the right thing by getting it checked out
