Can you receive HPV from hooking up with someone whose ex-girlfriend has cervical cancer?

Posted on Nov 27, 2009 under breast cancer |

I recently has unprotected oral sex with a guy whose ex-girlfriend has cervical cancer. He had unprotected sex with this ex-girlfriend on a regular basis, however I believe she already had the cancer by the time they started going out. She even had a child with him (go figure).

Prior to going down on him I looked at his, well, member and detected no irregularities. He told me that he keeps himself very clean and that because he recently recovered from lyme disease, they ran a series of tests on him and everything turned up negative.

He also went down on me. I presume that when they were together, he went down on his ex-girlfriend as well.

All this aside, does this mean that:

1) He is infected and/or contagious with the same strain of HPV that caused his ex-girlfriend’s cancer
2) It is possible that I have contracted this strain of cancer-causing HPV in my throat
3) It is possible that I have contracted this strain of cancer-causing HPV from open-mouthed kissing or receiving oral sex from him.

When I was eight years old, I got a plantar wart on the bottom of my right foot from walking barefoot in the changing room of a local swimming pool, so I know I already have some strain of HPV in my body, as it is the cause of all warts.

I’m just really scared right now and I don’t know whether or not I have reason to be.
-I have also received the Gardasil vaccine

Cervical Cancer can occur for many reasons. HPV is just one of them.

If the guy you hooked up with had a girlfriend who had cervical cancer which was attributed to a cancerous strain of HPV, and they regularly had sex, then the chances are, he has it too. But because he doesn’t have a cervix, you won’t know he’s a carrier unless he has a strain that causes warts. You see, the cancerous strains don’t usually come out as warts, they just cause serious cell changes in many cases.

Every time you have sex with this guy, you will increase your chances of contracting it from him. Maybe you got off lucky in this instance.

Be warned of this though, if you’ve had sex before having sex with him, it’s pretty certain that you have your very own strain of sexually transmitted HPV and that you have passed this back to him too.

    Your EVEN so to speak!!!!!
