breast cancer at age 15?

Posted on Nov 21, 2009 under breast cancer |

I am 15 and my left breast started itching these past two weeks. I was scratching my left breast a while ago and i scratched it so some skin is scarred and itchy. It keeps on itching the exact place where i scratched it but its only my left breast. When i push in it feels hard but i don’t know if it is a lump. My left breast is also bigger than my right breast if that makes a difference
I am scared it is breast cancer? Are these the symptoms? help!
I forgot to mention that i my breasts are sore and I am late on my period if that makes a difference.

Breast cancer in a 15 year old is almost unheard of. Also, breasts rarely match in size on any woman.

Try a cortisone cream to relieve the itching.

Breast cancer at the age of 15 is very rare or even so impossible so don’t worry .

Like Afferty said, its incredibly rare. Also itching is not a known symptom, and the lump would be small and round feeling, you would know it was irregular. breasts almost never grom at the same rate, and if you’re 15 yours may well still be getting larger. I also would suggest creme or lotion, but you don’t have breast cancer =]

Now you are jumping to conclusion. First of all, we’ve never heard of breast cancer at that age. second, one boob is always bigger than the other, they’re not equal and third but most important if you feel that something is wrong in a part of your body you should tell your parents so they can bring you to the doctor immediately.

The chances of breast cancer at 15 are as close to zero as makes almost no difference; if a 13 year old had breast cancer, her case would make headline news and would be written up in medical journals the world over.

Breast cancer is almost unheard of in under 25s (let alone young teens) and in fact fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed with breast cancer are under 30. It’s rare under 40 (5%) and most people diagnosed with it (80%) are over 50.

You know, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I was classed as a ‘younger woman’; I was 50.

It’s perfectly normal for one breast to be slightly larger than the other. The itching sounds like a skin condition.

You say both your breasts are sore; pain and tenderness is rarely a symptom of breast cancer - most people diagnosed with it have felt no pain. This is normal hormonal activity, especially as your period is due.

And the chances of having breast cancer in both breasts at once are even lower than your chances of having breast cancer at all.

Stop worrying; you’re in an age group where breast cancer is just about unknown, and you don’t have symptoms of breast cancer.

Talk to your mother; if you don’t feel comfortable about that, talk to your school nurse, who will be able to reassure you
