The BRCA test is around $3,000. It has nothing to do with treatment.

If you have a history of breast cancer in your family, it is possible that your insurance will cover the cost of the test. I was tested after I was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer because my sister and an aunt have also had it and to help my many siblings and blood relatives be more proactive, in their own health care. If one family member has the mutation, there is a higher probability that others in the family will also carry the gene mutation. In my case, I do not carry the mutation.
