It doesn’t really hurt, but it is uncomfortable. Some doctors are more gentle than others.

This is gonna sound weird, but male doctors are more gentle than female doctors and I always go to a male gynecologist simply because they are more gentle.

If you are referring to a first time screening, it is a pap smear, which is not too uncomfortable for most.
If that test comes back with abnormal cells, you will need a colposcopy which is more detailed, closer examination of the tissue. This one is a tiny bit more uncomfortable and some women report cramping afterwards. A bit more scraping is involved.
If further testing is still warranted, a cone biopsy is done where tissue is actually cut out and this can be painful, but only for the moment. Some doctors would recommend taking a pain killer prior to the in office procedure.

No, you do usually bleed after, but its more strange than painful. As long as you’re relaxed you should be fine.

The doctor feels absolutely no pain at all….neither will you.
