Does mono or epstein barr have some of the same symptoms as lymphoma?

Posted on Jul 15, 2009 under lymphoma | 3 Comments

I’m asking because my friend’s masseuse found a lump under her arm like a week or so ago and told her to see a doctor, then the doctor saw her and took some tests, then based on them had her come back in and gave her a referral to a pediatric oncologist and for a biopsy. I wasn’t in the appt w her and she hasn’t said anything about what was said in it, she won’t talk about it at all, but my mom had gone w her cause she works next door and wanted to support her and so she knows about those forms. Okay, so anyway my friend thinks this is all nothing because she had mono when she was 14 and had a lump under her arm then and the same symptoms and she just needs to wait it out. Is that true? Do you have the same symptoms - weight loss, night sweats, total lack of appetite with both? Right now she still seems just like herself so Idk, except she can’t eat and her tongue is white. Like she’s not even hungry for a piece of toast. So is this like the milder version of mono or something scarier? Cause last time she was like unable to do anything at all but now she’s still going to dance every day.

If a blood test already showed that you have lymphoma why do you need a biopsy?

Posted on Jul 15, 2009 under lymphoma | 5 Comments

Like a little over a week ago my friend’s masseuse found a lump under her arm and told her to see a doctor, the doctor took some blood tests then talked to her and gave her a referal to a pediatric oncologist and for a biopsy. Okay. So my friend has still a whole entire week later not said a single word about what the doctor said and keeps saying its just mono again cause she had it when she was 14 and it’s got the same symptoms and that everything is just like totally fine, but my mom talked to her mom who’d talked to the doctor and they said it the blood work already showed that it was lymphoma (dont know anything more than that) so why would they need a biospy? I think they are actually taking it out, like surgery. Idk. So could she be fine then? I mean, if she has it, why kick her when she’s down and make her have some procedure? Nobody is telling me jack and this is annoying me. I need answers! Could you please explain if you know about this stuff?
thanx F, so then could it just be mono again?
Oh. Idk know that a lump could be the cancer. I just thought it was like the sign of it. Okay, I’m totally retarded when it comes to this stuff.

Also - she’s got a white tongue this wk. Is that related or random?
I know DeniseDD, your info has been helpful. My friend is acting like nothing is wrong - like at all, no seriously - but she’s the one who talked 2 the doctor not me so Idk if shes being like in denial or if there is hope. So the blood work would have shown its not mono? Idk why she says it is mono again then.
She’s 17 but she’s more responsible than most adults. She’s getting it done Thursday.
For al ot of reasons she couldn’t get it done sooner, so the delay wasnt her fault really.

How long can a stage 4 lung cancer patient live?

Posted on Jul 15, 2009 under Lung cancer | 6 Comments

I have a stage 4 lung cancer. I am 33 years old. My doctor refused to give me an estimate of how long I can live. I’m not a smoker, maybe that is why my cancer is not as aggressive. I read on-line and most people with this disease are older and did not live more than a year.

I’m still very healthy. I get Avastin every 3 weeks and I go to work every day. It has been almost 1 year after my diagnosis. I can’t imagine how much longer I can live. I went skeet shooting last week and it was great. I’m still enjoy boxing, my favorite sport.

I can’t see myself dying. But then again, it’s stage 4. Do you know anyone who live longer than 1 year with this disease?
Thank you for your answers. My first round of chemo ended in Feb. 2009. I’m currently on Avastin. The cancer has spread from my two lungs to my brain. However, the brain is currently cancer-free due to laser surgery.

I feel so normal. I looked around and I don’t see anything wrong with me. It is so hard to believe I have a stage 4.

Should I drink Ensure Plus while going through lung cancer and having diabetes problem at same time?
