Cancer on right kidney?
Posted on Jun 24, 2009 under cancer news and reports |Hello,
i was just told that i have an lesion on my right kidney an that it could be a cyst or cancer. My Dr told me that he can not do a biospy because this type of cancer that kidneys have spread real fast doing this procedure if there was an error. So he wants to take the kidney out an cut the lesion off ( Still will have part of my kidney. The lesion is about an half an inch. I'm wondering why i would have to go through all this pain an it could be a cyst. I plan to go for a second opinion. any advice would be helpful at this stressful time. Thank you for your time.

A second opinion is the right way to go. And a third opinion if you don't like the first two. Also ask about other treatment options.

There are lots of websites that deal with this. It might help to educate yourself before your second dr visit.
Good luck. I hope it all works out for you.

My family has had a history of cancer. I would deff. go for a second a opinion or two. Cancer is something to take VERY seriously. You can also go to your gyno and they can do a sonogram to see if it is a cyst. You need to go get it checked out before he starts anything on you!!

I am sorry for what you are going through..Yes, take a second or third opinion, if need be..And get them quick because you want to have a surgery soon on this one before it gets late, right..
I am not sure, but I think you should consume of less of protein diets, alcohol and meat in this time because kidneys take the maximum brunt on this, and I dont want your kidneys to be stressed at this time.
But, to answer your worries, please go for a quick second and third opinion..Be cheerful and strong..things shall be fine pretty soon..

That is terrible. Although I have no idea how to predict if it is a cyst or cancer, I can tell you this. You should keep exercising and eat healthy foods, which can keep the cancer/cyst from coming back. Hope i helped at least a little.

my daughter had a kidney problem when she was little. apparently it was a birth defect that went unnoticed. then when she was 17 ( she's almost 19 now) she had it removed because it died and became infected and cause great pain. perhaps if the cysts popped it could cause an infection through the blood stream. having a kidney removed isn't as much as someone donating a kidney. get a second opinion. either way it sounds like there will continue to be pain. good luck

If it's cancer it can be treated without surgery. There are several proven methods of completely curing cancer without surgery, chemo- or radio- therapy. Narural therapies have a much higher success rate than orthodox treatments if you follow them 100%. Having even part of your kidney removed severely damages your health and shortens your life.
(I've studied Traditional Chinese Medicine - any practitioner of TCM will tell you to hang on to your kidneys)
Your doctor may not agree with any of this, but there are lots of things that most doctors don't find out. Luckily there are some who find the time to look beyond what they were taught at med. school.
Please look into all the alternatives before you agree to any surgery.
Good luck.

If kidney cancer spreads it will kill you.
If it has not spread you have a good chance of living.

Doctors will try to determine if it is a benign cyst on radiology. They hate to do a biopsy because seeding can occur along the needle track and they are only 75% accurate. Combined this is too big a risk. If it cannot be determined to be benign on radiology surgery is your best bet.
Also if this area of concern is near the renal vein and it turns out to be cancer you could be in for big trouble. Your doctor is weighing the risk of monitoring you and surgery and apparently feels leaving it alone for now is riskier.
No one likes having surgery, but kidney cancer can be very curable or deadly. When it is caught early surgery is the only treatment needed. Prognosis is determined by the size of the tumor, renal vein involvement and the time between having it removed and when/if mets develop. Nearly all patients who recur or develop mets within one year of surgery die within 2 years if untreated and have a 5 year survival rate of about 35% if treated.
This decision is up to you and by all means get another opinion. However, I believe most people would feel uneasy having this thing watched to see if it shows any characteristics of cancer at some point. Best wishes.
